Davos is among the best mountain resorts in the world. It is located in a vast valley at an altitude of 1,560 metres above sea level and is territorially divided into two parts – the western Davos Platz and the eastern Davos Dorf.
The resort’s history dates back to the nineteenth century, when doctors deemed the local microclimate to be useful for patients with pulmonary diseases. It was at this time that the first tourists started to arrive in the city. The picturesque alpine city was home to many outstanding writers and artists, including Thomas Mann, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Robert Louis Stevenson.
The city turned into a ski resort in the middle of the twentieth century. Davos acquired worldwide fame in 1971, when the first World Economic Forum was held there. Since then, Davos has become into a centre of world economic and political life.
Today, Davos has well-developed tourist, business, and sports infrastructure. More information on Davos is available on the official city website.
